Ankara, Turkey (Urban Transport News): Türkiye’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has officially opened tenders for significant railway projects along the Central Corridor. The General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments, under the ministry, published the public tender announcement in the Official Gazette this week, marking a crucial step in advancing the country’s rail network.
The projects are part of the “Eastern Türkiye Central Corridor Railway Development Project,” which has received a substantial financial contribution of €246.4 million ($266.43 million) from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). This funding will be used for the procurement of goods, construction works, related services, and consulting, all aimed at enhancing Türkiye’s transportation and logistics capabilities.
The Central Corridor Railway Project aims to improve the safety, accessibility, and sustainability of transportation within Türkiye, particularly between the Divrigi district in Sivas and the Georgian border. By boosting logistics efficiency along this critical route, the project will contribute to the resilience, connectivity, and overall strength of Türkiye’s national railway network. This development is a key component of Türkiye's broader strategy to enhance its role in the Middle Corridor, connecting Asia and Europe through its territory.
The procurement of contracts under this project will follow guidelines set by the Islamic Development Bank for the purchasing of goods, construction services, and consulting. The tenders are open to all eligible bidders, allowing for international competition and ensuring the selection of the most qualified contractors for the job.
Consulting services will be selected according to the IDB’s guidelines for consulting services under project financing. Special procurement notices for the contracts and consulting services will be published on both the IDB’s website and the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments' website, as well as in the Official Gazette.
Interested firms or individuals looking for more details regarding the procurement of goods, construction works, or consulting services are encouraged to contact the Railway Construction Department at the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
This ambitious railway development project is set to not only improve domestic connectivity within Türkiye but also strengthen its position as a key player in global logistics and trade between Asia and Europe.
