KEC-Siemens JV wins Rs 536 crore Electrification Contract for Kolkata Metro Line 3, 6

Kolkata, India (Urban Transport News): The Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) on 26th March 2021 opened the financial bids for the contract called for supply and installation of 33 kV power distribution stations and 750V DC third rail traction system for Line 3 (Joka – Mominpur) and Line 6 (Kavi Subhash – Biman Bandar) of Kolkata Metro Rail project.

Tenders for the above work were invited in October 2020 in two packages. The technicals bids were opened on 2nd February 2021 where two firms Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) and KEC International – Siemens had submitted their bids.

According to the results of financial bids shared by RVNL, the consortium of KEC International and Siemens Limited on 26th March 2021 emerged as the lowest bidder in both packages. The financial positions of each bidder in each package are as under:

Package 3 (Line 3)

  • KEC International - Siemens JV: Rs 241 crores
  • Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T): Rs 303 crores

The scope of work under this package includes Engineering, Supply, Erection, Testing and Commissioning of 33 KV Power Distribution, Traction Substation, Auxiliary Substations and 750 V DC Third Rail Traction system for Joka-Majerhat Corridor (Mominpur) and Airport-New Garia Corridor (Hemendra Mukherjee(Excluding) to Bidhannagar of Kolkata Metro Rail project.

The estimated cost of the project was Rs 258.25 crores with an approximate completion period of two years (24 months) from the date of issuance of LoA to the contractor.

Package 4 (Line 6)

  • KEC International - Siemens JV: Rs 295 crores
  • Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T): Rs 373 crores

The scope of work under this package includes Engineering, Supply, Erection, Testing and Commissioning of 33 KV Power Distribution, Traction Substation, Auxiliary Substations and 750 V DC Third Rail Traction system for Airport-New Garia Corridor Bidhannagar (Excluding)- Bimanbandar including New Town Depot of Kolkata Metro Rail project.

The estimated cost of the project was Rs 314.65 crores with an approximate completion period of two and half years (30 months) from the date of issuance of LoA to the contractor.

Now the bids have been sent for final evaluation by the tender committee and based on findings the letter of acceptance (LoA) will be issued to the winner to commence the work.
