New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): In a landmark development for railway engineering, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) and Monash University, Australia, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research, education, and executive training in the field. The agreement was formalized today at the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, with Dr. Monica Kennedy, Minister Commercial and Head of Austrade South Asia, hosting the event.

The MoU was signed by Professor Craig Jeffrey, Deputy Vice-Chancellor-International and Senior Vice-President of Monash University, and Professor Manoj Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya. This partnership signifies a significant step forward in enhancing railway systems through joint research initiatives and advanced educational programs.

Key aspects of the collaboration include the creation of a joint research lab dedicated to pioneering technological advancements in railway engineering. This lab will focus on exploring new technologies and methodologies to improve the efficiency and safety of railway systems in both India and Australia. Additionally, the partnership aims to facilitate collaboration on future industrial projects that promise mutual benefits and advancement for the railway systems of both nations.

Educational and training programs will be another cornerstone of this partnership. The MoU outlines the development of joint educational programs and executive training sessions, leveraging Monash University’s expertise through its Monash Institute of Railway Technology (IRT). The IRT is renowned for its innovative solutions and has a global reputation for addressing complex railway-related technical challenges.

Professor Craig Jeffrey expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “I am delighted that Monash University is partnering with GSV, India’s pioneering university in the transportation and logistics sectors. The Monash IRT is at the forefront of developing technologies that enhance productivity and safety while mitigating risks and reducing costs. This collaboration with GSV represents a significant expansion of our engagement with India and further reinforces our commitment to solving global railway issues.”

Professor Manoj Choudhary highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration, noting, “GSV is dedicated to driving innovation and industry advancement in the transportation and logistics sectors. Railways are vital to our national transportation infrastructure, and with rapid technological advancements, the sector is undergoing a transformative journey towards a more developed India. Our shared goals with Monash University, a leader in research and global impact, will foster significant progress in railway engineering.”

Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, established by an Act of Parliament in 2022, is a Central University sponsored by the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. It aims to create top-tier talent and expertise across various transportation and logistics sectors, including railways, aviation, shipping, ports, highways, and waterways. The university’s programs are developed in close collaboration with industry experts to ensure they meet practical and cutting-edge educational standards.

The MoU signing event was attended by senior officials from Monash University, the Ministry of Railways, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Austrade, DFCCIL, and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). This collaborative effort underscores a shared commitment to advancing railway engineering capabilities and supporting the broader goals of national development and international cooperation.
