Visakhapatnam, India (Urban Transport News): Gurugram based consultancy firm Urban Mass Transit Company Limited (UMTC) emerged as the lowest bidder for preparing detailed project report (DPR) for 60.2 km long Metrolite project in Visakhapatnam city. A total of two firms including UMTC have submitted their proposals to Amrawati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) against the RfP (request for proposal) for the preparation of DPR for the Visakhapatnam Metrolite (Tram) project.
UMTC declared the lowest bidder by quoting a price of Rs 3,37,66,200. In the order issued on 1 June 2020, the Andhra Pradesh government has directed AMRC to sign a contract agreement with AMRC and appoint the firm as a consultant for preparation of new DPR for modern Tram (Metrolite) corridor for a total length of 60.2 km including the preparation of alternative analysis report etc. The UMTC has to submit a new DPR to AMRC within six months from the date of issuance of the letter of acceptance (LoA). Earlier, in March this year, the AMRC had also issued a letter of acceptance (LoA) to UMTC for the contract worth Rs 5.33 crore for preparation of revised DPR for the 33.5-km long Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project.
Apart from preparing new DPR for the project, UMTC will be given the responsibility to provide transaction advisory services for the bidding process management for the project, which will be taken up in a public-private partnership (PPP) model and selection of a developer on a success fee basis. The state government has revised the length of the first phase of the Visakhapatnam Metro rail project from 42.5 km to nearly 80 km following its decision of extending the highway corridor to Bhogapuram International Airport.
The Visakhapatnam Metrolite (Tram) project will be implemented in the second phase of the MRTS plan that includes NAD Junction-Pendurthi, Steel Plant-Anakapalli, Old Post Office-Rushikonda beach, Rushikonda beach-Bheemili.
