Noida, India (Urban Transport News): Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a fully-owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International has recently opened the financial bids for the first construction contract of the proposed international airport to be built at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh.
As per the financial bid result, Tata Projects Limited (TPL) emerged as the lowest bidder by beating the two major construction firms Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) and Shapoorji Pallonji Engineering & Construction (SP E&C).
Tender notice (RFQ) for the construction of Phase 1 of Noida International Airport was issued in April 2021 through two EPC contracts: Package-1 related to the terminal building’s construction and Package-2 for airside, landside and associated works.
Technical bids were opened in March 2022 when YIAPL informed that the company has received bids from three Indian construction firms.
On November 25 last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for this project. The concessionaire, Swiss company Zurich International AG, has scheduled to make the airport operational by September 2024.
So far, Zurich International has completed the construction of 9km of the 17km-long boundary wall around 1,334 hectares of land on which the project is being developed. The land has also been completely levelled to start the construction work after awarding the civil tender.
Phase 1 of Noida International Airport envisions a 90,000 Sqm Terminal 1 building, 4150m x 45m Code ‘E’ runway (Runway 10/28) fully supported by CAT III approach lighting and visual aids, parallel end to end taxiway, Air Traffic Control (ATC) building, cargo facility and commercial developments.
According to the plan, there will be 10 entries for domestic passengers, two for international passengers, 10 migration desks and 48 checkpoints. The authority will build a 2.8MLD (million litres a day) water treatment plant and a 6.28MLD sewage treatment plant for drinking water purposes and treating the sewage.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is appointed as the General Consultant to assist in the development of the project.
