Bengaluru, India (Urban Transport News): Tejasvi Surya, the Member of Parliament for Bengaluru South, conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP) in a meeting with officials from the Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE) on 22nd July 2023.
During the meeting, Surya assessed the advancements made in the construction of the four corridors that constitute the BSRP, covering a total length of 148.17 km and comprising 58 new stations.
Notably, officials shared updates on the progress of Corridor 2, spanning from Chikkabanavara to Baiyyappanahalli, which has commenced construction and is currently progressing at an accelerated pace.
Critical discussions were held regarding pertinent issues such as land acquisition, utility shifting, timely approvals, and interoperability. Additionally, the focus was on addressing the challenges related to the capacity constraints of existing railway stations due to congestion.
The overarching goal of the project review was to ensure seamless multi-modal integration with Indian Railways, metro stations, and bus stops. The intention is to enhance the commuting experience for passengers, leading to increased ridership.
Surya also put forth valuable suggestions on creating public awareness about the project, particularly targeting students. He recommended encouraging students from architectural backgrounds to contribute their innovative ideas for station planning and design.
It is worth mentioning that earlier, Surya had appealed to the Railway Minister, Sri Ashwini Vaishnaw, in the Parliament to approve the expansion plan of the suburban railway network. Such expansion is deemed essential to foster the economic growth of Bengaluru's suburban centers, including Tumkur, Ramanagara, and Chikkaballapura.
K-RIDE has proposed a Pre-feasibility study for the extension of BSRP to satellite areas as part of BSRP phase 2. Surya plans to present this proposal to the Ministry of Railways for approval.
Assuring his commitment to groundbreaking developments in the Railway Department, Surya pledged to take all necessary measures to ensure the timely completion of the project.
