Nagpur, India (Urban Transport News): The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) announced two winners of the Station Access and Mobility Program (STAMP) initiative in Nagpur. The winning teams are QYK Bike and Zero21.
STAMP Nagpur aims to improve connectivity to the metro by working closely with mobility companies, to develop strategies for effective first and last-mile planning and enhance metro station area infrastructure and amenities. The initiative is being led by Maha Metro and implemented in collaboration with the Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF) and World Resources Institute India (WRI India).
Following the launch of STAMP Nagpur in March 2022, over 25 mobility companies from across the country responded to a call for applications to develop pilot proposals for their solutions to be deployed at Nagpur Metro stations.
Six companies were shortlisted, based on their proposals, and invited to a Bootcamp at Nagpur Metro offices. Participants received support in refining their pilot proposals and learned more about last-mile planning.
The two winners were then selected, following a comprehensive evaluation, by a jury of representatives from MAHA METRO, external experts, and WRI India. The winners will receive financial and technical support and will get the opportunity to deploy their pilots at selected Nagpur Metro stations.
Uday Borwanker, Executive Director (O&M), MAHA-METRO said, “Through the STAMP Challenge, MAHA-METRO is investing in Nagpur to ensure all commuters have access to mass transit services. We are excited to partner with the winning companies and to pilot these innovative solutions that can make transport in the city more integrated and enjoyable."
Pras Ganesh, Executive Program Director, Asia Region, Toyota Mobility Foundation, said, "We believe it is crucial to offer choice to ensure that the commuter may take the optimal sustainable solution that meets their mobility needs.''
Vikram Gulati, Country Head & Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs & Governance, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, "At Toyota, we believe that innovative ideas to provide 'First & Last Mile Mobility solutions are vital for creating sustainable mobility for all.”
Madhav Pai, Executive Director, WRI India Ross Center, said, "The Station Access and Mobility Program, through its data and evidence-based approach, helps projects like Nagpur Metro better integrate different modes of transport to create meaningful change.''
