Moscow, Russia (Urban Transport News): According to the Moscow Department of Transport, the Moscow Metro has received the 100th new generation train Moskva-2020 in the Solntsevo depot. After all the inspections, the new train will operate on Line 6 of the Moscow Metro.
The Department noted that the new metro cars Moskva-2020 are more convenient and spacious for passengers than their predecessors. In new trains, the noise level was reduced by 15 percent, and they also have a wider inter-car transition which is 1,6 meters. At the same time, new trains have a larger capacity: the doors are 15 percent wider than those of the Moskva model and 28 percent wider than those of the Rusich model. Trains are also equipped with 368 USB chargers and 32 overhead console-mounted data displays.
"On the instructions of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we continue to renew the metro car fleet. Today, almost 70% of metro passengers travel in new comfortable trains, which are produced by the Russian factory Metrowagonmash. The manufacturer itself maintains the cars for 30 years under the life cycle contract. Due to the transition to such a contract, the transport complex has already saved more than 10 billion rubles. Until 2024, we plan to get more than 1300 Moskva-2020 cars and then the metro train fleet will be renewed up to 80%," said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
The design of Moskva-2020 was recognized internationally. In 2021, Moskva-2020 won the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021. The international jury unanimously gave it the highest score in the Trains and Planes category.
Earlier it was reported that by 2024, the Moscow Metro train fleet would be the youngest in Europe. The average age of the trains will be reduced to 10 years. In 2022 and 2023, the Moscow Metro will receive about 660 new cars.
