MMRDA to begin Monorail service between Jacob Circle-Wadala from March 2

Mumbai (Urban Transport News): The much anticipated second phase of Mumbai Monorail is going to start from March 2, 2019. According to the exclusive information received from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials, the second phase of Mumbai Monorail is all set to start from Wadala to Jacob Circle on March 2. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will flag off the Mumbai Monorail Phase 2 on 2nd March i.e. Saturday. This phase is therefore very important for MMRDA because after several technical difficulties, it has reached the verge of launching it.

According to the information, this is the reason why MMRDA is engaged in preparing for its grand inauguration. Mumbaikars had been waiting for the second phase of the monorail for the last decade, but due to not getting the rake and not depositing the duties, its parts were held months on the harbor. According to the official, the monorail lying in the yard with the components has been corrected and it is ready to walk. This phase will start after about 10 years because its lining was made in 2011, whereas the first phase started in 2014, which is operating between Chembur and Wadala.

In the second phase, six rakes of monorail will run daily. A monorail will run every 20 minutes intervals. The monorail will be operational from 6 am to 10 pm on the second stage line. MMRDA expects that the number of people traveling daily from the monorail will increase from 15000 to 1 lakh as soon as the second phase begins. Let us know that around 112 components of the monorail rake have been imported from Malaysia, for which MMRDA has paid the cost of Rs.3 crore.

MMRDA has 10 sets of Monorail, out of which 5 are running between Chembur and Wadala, while 5 other trains will now run between Wadala and Jacob Circle in the second phase. Earlier, the company was under the responsibility of maintenance from these rakes, but the service was delayed due to delay in the service, and MMRDA took over all the responsibilities for the operation of the Mumbai monorail.
