Pune, India (Urban Transport News): Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) on 23rd January 2021 has celebrated the 4th foundation day of the Pune Metro Rail project. Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and chairman Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation was the chief guest for the foundation day ceremony celebrated at the Phugewadi Office of Pune Metro.
Four years ago, Pune Metro had started with 3 employees. A team was built in quick time, the tender was called- finalized and in record 6-7 months time, the actual foundation of the first pier of the Pune Metro completed.
Pune Metro has completed about 48 percent of work as of now and in the year 2021 Punekars will see the actual operation of Pune Metro. Corona pandemic has affected the progress of metro work but the maha metro team under the leadership of Dr. Brijesh Dixit has formulated plans to expedite the construction of Pune Metro.
Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary (MoHUA) and Maha Metro Managing Director Dr. Brijesh Dixit and other directors of Maha Metro reviewed the progress of viaduct, underground, electrical traction, signaling, telecom, land acquisition, rolling stock, metro car depot, PIDS, MEP and other work in the 24th Board of directors meeting held at Phugewadi office of Maha Metro.
In his speech, Durga Shankar Mishra congratulated the Maha Metro officials for their outstanding performance and instructed them to keep the work continue. He visited the Sant Tukaram Nagar Metro station, which is the first metro station completed in a few days from now, and satisfied with the quality and facilities provided at the station.
He also inspected the stretch between Sant Tukaram Nagar to Phugewadi in the three coach metro train. The three coach metro train is being used for trials for last year and it was immensely helpful to check all the parameters of metro routes. Dr. Brijesh Dixit MD Maha Metro explained the passenger amenities provide at the Sant Tukaram Nagar Station.
Mishra inspected the stretch from PCMC to Khadki, Bund Garden to RTO and Swargate Multimodal Hub - underground station. Pune metro is building a three-level multi-modal hub at Swargate which will segregate the metro, PMPML, rikshaw, car-taxi services and pedestrian movement and make the Jedhe Chouk completed hassle-free.
A team of architects and designers explained the plan and progress of Swargate Multimodal Hub. Atul Gadgil (Director Works) informed that the third TBM which is under assembly at Swargate will commence the tunneling work shortly. By mid-February two TBM from Civil Court and one TBM from Swargate will start with the full swing, this will expedite tunneling work in Range hill to Swargate underground 6 km stretch of Pune Metro.
Mishra was satisfied with the progress of Pune Metro work and instructed to expedite the work so that Punekars can use the metro for their daily commuting.
