New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): Indian Railways is poised to achieve its best-ever performance in various aspects of its operations for the financial year 2023-24.
On 15th March 2024, Indian Railways surpassed the milestone of 1500 million tonnes in freight loading, marking a significant accomplishment. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 1512 million tonnes achieved in the fiscal year 2022-23.
The total revenue generated by Indian Railways in the current fiscal year stands at ₹2.40 lakh crores as of date. Comparatively, on the same date last year, the total revenue was ₹2.23 lakh crores, indicating an increase of ₹17,000 crores. However, it's noteworthy that the total expenditure of Indian Railways for the fiscal year 2023-24 amounts to ₹2.26 lakh crores.
In terms of passenger travel, the total number of passengers transported during the fiscal year 2023-24 is 648 crores, marking an increase of 52 crores compared to the same period last year when the total number of passengers was 596 crores.
Another remarkable feat achieved by Indian Railways during this financial year is the laying of 5100 kilometers of new tracks. The average daily track laying rate for this fiscal year exceeds 14 kilometers per day, demonstrating significant progress in infrastructure development.
These accomplishments underscore Indian Railways' commitment to enhancing its operational efficiency and expanding its infrastructure to cater to the growing demands of freight and passenger transportation in the country.
