Hyderabad Metro opens first stretch of JBS-MGBS-Falaknuma corridor

Hyderabad, India (Urban Transport News): Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao flagged off of the 11-km long stretch between Jubilee Bus Station and Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (JBS-MGBS) today. However, this stretch will be opened for public services from tomorrow. This stretch (JBS-MGBS) is part of the Corridor II (JBS-MGBS-Falaknuma) of Hyderabad Metro Phase I, connecting the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

This stretch will serve a total of 9 metro stations -JBS, Parade GroundsSecunderabad, Gandhi Hospital, Musheerabad, RTC Cross Roads, Chikkadpally, Narayanguda, Sultan Bazar and MGBS. Second largest Metro Rail Network

With the launch of this 11-km stretch, Hyderabad Metro has completed now a total of 69 km metro rail network in Hyderabad and has become the second-largest metro rail network in India after Delhi Metro.

Ministers KTR, Mohammed Mehmood Ali, Chamakura Malla Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, V Srinivas Goud, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, T. Padma Rao & other dignitaries participated in the inauguration ceremony. After inaugurating the stretch, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, some TRS leaders and some senior officials from Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited travelled on the metro from JBS to Chikkadpally.

Asia's largest metro station opened

In JBS-MGBS stretch Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) is an interchange metro station between the Red Line and Green Line of the Hyderabad Metro Rail network and it has become one of the largest metro stations in Asia, with sprawling premises over 280,000 square feet.

World's biggest metro rail project on PPP mode

In November 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the first section of Corridor I between Miyapur-Ameerpet-Nagole of Hyderabad Metro. In 2018, the second section between Ameerpet and LB Nagar was opened. Another 1.5 km stretch between Hitec City and Raidurg was opened in November last year.

In March this year, the third section between Ameerpet and Hitec City was opened. The Hyderabad Metro is the biggest metro project in the world in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at a total cost of Rs 20,000 crore.
