Ahmedabad, India (Urban Transport News): To provide smart public transportation facilities in small cities, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (GMRC) is planning to introduce eco-friendly and low-cost rail-based Urban Transport Systems. GMRC invites e-tenders from the reputed and experienced agencies for the selection of Consultant for Preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for MetroNeo/MetroLite System for Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar. The tender notice was issued on May 25, 2021.

The DPR shall include all requisite studies, including market study, demand assessment, conceptual plans conforming to rules and regulations and recommendations for the development mechanism to be followed. The project development proposed shall be with the utmost consideration for the ecology of the existing surroundings. The GMRC intends to select the Consultant through open competitive bidding in accordance with the procedure set out in the tender documents. The consultants need to submit a separate proposal for each of the cities.

The Government of India has developed new systems, keeping in mind the mobility intensity observed in the second-tier cities. The systems named "Metro Neo and Metro Lite", which will be fitting into medium to smaller-scale cities are expected to bring efficiency with the optimal package. The Government of Gujarat, considering long-term developmental needs, has recently announced its intent to develop Metro Neo or Metro Lite systems in the cities of Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar, and Bhavnagar.
The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited, an SPV of the Government of India and Government of Gujarat is entrusted with the task of implementing metro rail projects for the state of Gujarat. Carrying forward with its ongoing implementation of full-scale Metro projects in Ahmedabad and Surat, GMRC now endeavors to initiate the successful introduction of Metro Neo or Metro Lite system for Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar cities.
