DMRC to start deposit work of Patna Metro Rail project soon

Patna (Urban Transport News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been entrusted to carry out the deposit work of Patna Metro Rail project. For this, DMRC has set up its project office in Patna and now planning to deploy project staffs including the Projects Managers. According to the plan, the first train maintenance depot will be constructed at Danapur and another near the proposed Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) near Aitwarpur on Patna-Gaya road.

The bidding process for acquisition of land for the metro rail project has already started and tender will be floated soon. In a recent media interaction, Sanjay Dayal, special secretary, urban development and housing department in Bihar government said that the project progress report (PPR) for the Patna metro rail project has been submitted to the state finance department.

We are awaiting approval of the project progress report (PPR) and release of funds by the government to start construction work. Five officials, including the project director and general manager (works), have already joined the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC). We will also hire consultants for technical and legal assistance. The objective is to improve mobility in the city for all socio-economic groups and genders. We have even updated metro locations on Google maps via geocoding.

New appointed General Manager (works), Vijaysheel Kashyap, said that PMRC officials recently visited places to finalise locations for construction of the two metro depots. He said,

It was decided that the first depot will be constructed at Danapur and another near the proposed Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT) near Aitwarpur on Patna-Gaya road. We have also identified a government land for building PMRC headquarters.

On February 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation for Patna metro rail project through remote control from Mokama. The cost of the Patna metro rail project is estimated to Rs.13,365.77 crore and it will completed in three phases in five years. The state government will also bear the cost of land acquisition for the project.

Sources said that the construction work will be started on the 16.94 km stretch under east-west corridor which will connect Danapur with Mithapur bus stand via Saguna Mor, Bailey Road and Patna Junction. It is expected that the deposit work of the Patna metro rail project will be started in three months.
