The Colombo Light Rail Transit network, is a proposed public transport project in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This project is being developed by Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, Govt. of Sri Lanka under public-private partnership programme.

  • Station Names: Fort/Pettah, Transport Centre, St. Joseph's College, National Hospital, Borella, Cotta Road, Walikada, Rajagiriya, Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla, Palan Thuna, Robert Gunawardena Mawatha, Lumbini Temple, Thalahena, Malabe, IT Park.
  • Depot: Malabe

Rolling Stock

  • Train Type: 4-car Light Rail
  • Gauge: Standard Gauge (1,435 mm)
  • Maximum Speed: 80 kmph
  • Traction Power Supply: DC750V Third Rail System

Progress
  • This project is part of Megapolis Transport Masterplan. [Read more]
  • June 2018: JICA submitted feasibility study to Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, Govt. of Sri Lanka.
  • 11 March 2019: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a loan agreement with the Government of Sri Lanka in Colombo to grant loan assistance of USD 1,800 million for the project.
  • 16 August 2019: Construction work of the first phase commenced.
