BPCL partners with Noida International Airport to construct ATF Pipeline

New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): In a significant move towards enhancing sustainability and operational efficiency, Noida International Airport (NIA) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) have joined forces to lay a dedicated aviation turbine fuel (ATF) pipeline. The agreement, inked on February 20, 2024, signifies a strategic collaboration aimed at meeting the airport's ATF demand while mitigating carbon emissions.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sujit Kumar, Chief General Manager, Marketing (Aviation) from BPCL, and Ms. Nitu Samra, Chief Financial Officer, NIA, formally sealed the deal in the presence of key executives from both entities. Notable attendees included Shri Biju Gopinath, Executive Director (Pipelines), Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Business Head (Aviation) from BPCL, along with Ms. Kiran Jain, Chief Operating Officer, and Ms. Mayuri Vats, Head of Legal, representing NIA.

The dedicated ATF pipeline, spanning an impressive 34 kilometers, with a segment extending 1.2 kilometers within the airport premises, is poised to revolutionize fuel transportation to Noida International Airport. Operating on a common/contract carrier basis, the pipeline will ensure seamless fuel delivery, thereby streamlining operations and reducing logistical complexities.

This strategic initiative aligns seamlessly with Noida International Airport's commitment to environmental stewardship. By eliminating the need for tank lorry movements, the common-use fuel transportation pipeline will significantly reduce emissions and enhance operational efficiency. Moreover, it reflects BPCL's dedication to pioneering sustainable solutions within the aviation sector.

In a statement, Sukhmal Jain, Director (Marketing) at BPCL, reiterated the company's longstanding commitment to minimizing carbon emissions by reducing road transportation of fuel. Noida International Airport (IATA code - DXN) is poised to become a landmark in sustainable airport operations. Spearheaded by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India, NIA is set to redefine air travel in the region.

Upon commencement of flight operations by the end of 2024, NIA will feature one runway and one passenger building capable of handling 12 million passengers annually and accommodating 1 lakh air traffic movements. Additionally, the airport will boast 28 parking stands. Over the next 30 years, NIA's capacity will undergo four phases of enhancement, progressively increasing from 12 million to 30 million, 52 million, and eventually 70 million passengers per annum. Each development phase will be initiated once passenger volume reaches 80% of the built capacity. By the final phase, NIA will operate with two runways, spanning a total area of 5,000 square meters.
