Bihar CM directs officials to start work on Patna Metro Rail project

Patna (Urban Transport News): In a meeting held on Tuesday, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has asked the officials to start work on Patna Metro rail project at the earliest. He said officials that adequate action should be ensured to carry out land acquisition for proposed metro corridor in the City. On Tuesday, principal secretary Chaitanya Prasad gave a presentation on Patna Metro Rail Project at Chief Minister's official residence.

Prasad also updated about the current progress on the project has made so far. After the presentation, Chief Minister directed the officials of urban development and housing department to start the work on the metro rail project. On February 17, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the long awaited Patna metro rail project through a remote conference at a function held at Barauni in Begusarai district of Bihar.

Since then the project is stuck and no further development made. However, to implement the project formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in name of Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) has already been approved by the government. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is entrusted for carry out deposit work for the Patna metro rail project. The DMRC has started set up of its project office in Patna and now planning to deploy some officials there. In the meeting Nitish Kumar said, the Rs 13,000 crore metro project will give new speed to Patna city.

The centre had already approved the detailed project report (DPR) of the Patna metro project. The construction work will be started on the 16.94 km stretch under east-west corridor which will connect Danapur with Mithapur bus stand via Saguna Mor, Bailey Road and Patna Junction. Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, urban development and housing minister Suresh Sharma, chief secretary Deepak Kumar, development commissioner Subhash Sharma, urban development and housing department, principal secretary Chaitanya Prasad, principal secretary Chanchal Kumar and other senior officials attended the meeting.
