BEML bags another Rolling Stock contract worth Rs 834 cr of Mumbai Metro

Bengaluru (Urban Transport News): The state-of-art company Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) on August 4, though its filing to stock exchanges (NSE & BSE) informed that the Company has bagged further orders worth Rs.834 crore for Rolling Stock Coaches from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) for Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)'s Mumbai Metro line 2 & 7 for additional 21 metro trainsets (126 coaches).

"We wish to inform that BEML has bagged further orders for Metro Coaches from M/s Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) for MMRDA Mumbai line 2&7 for additional 21 trainsets (126 Nos.) valued at INR 834 Crs approx.", said in the statement issued by S V Ravisekhar Rao, Company Secretary & Compliance officer of BEML Limited. The company further informed that the above order which is received from DMRC is in addition to the earlier order bagged by the BEML for supply of 63 metro trainsets (378 Rolling Stock coaches) worth Rs.3015 crore.

"The above order is in addition to the order received from DMRC for supply of 378 metro coaches (63 metro trains) worth about Rs.3015 crores, as intimated earlier to the Stock Exchanges vide our letter Ref: CS/SEs/084, dated 23.11.2018", added in the statement. It worth mentioning here that on July 29, the BEML has commenced manufacturing of metro trainsets (Rolling Stock) at its Bengaluru Facility Centre for fulfilling the earlier order received from the DMRC for supply to MMRDA's Mumbai Metro Line 2 & 7. The company will start delivery of the coaches to MMRDA by 2020.

During the implementation of the first mass rapid transit system project by the DMRC for its Phase-1 of Delhi Metro Rail project, BEML and Hyundai Rotem collaborated together and signed an agreement in 2002. The BEML became the first to indigenously manufacture Metro Cars for RS1 contract of DMRC and developed 220 metro coaches. According to to the data shared by the company, BEML has supplied over 1,100 Metro Coaches for various MRTS projects in India.
