Kanpur, India (Urban Transport News): The Metro project is being implemented in Kanpur city by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC). Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the civil construction work of Kanpur Metro's Priority Corridor on 15th November 2019. Within just a span of around three and a half months, the Metro team has successfully erected the first Pier Cap of the corridor at 6.30 am today. UPMRC's Managing Director Kumar Keshav performed rituals at the site and after the Pooja Ceremony, the very first Pier Cap was erected with the help of a Crane. This Pier Cap has been erected at the Pier or Piller No. 19 between the IIT Kanpur and National Sugar Institute.
UPMRC has accomplished this achievement approximately 3 months before as compared with the Lucknow Metro Project. Lucknow Metro is being accredited with the title of Fastest Constructed Metro in India and the work of Kanpur Metro Project is even faster than that of Lucknow. This shows a continuous approach of UPMRC engineers to upgrade themselves and provide a more innovative and refined Mass Rapid Transit System to the Public. On this occasion, UPMRC's MD Kumar Keshav reiterated the commitment of the entire team of UPMRC in undertaking this prestigious project in record time to give the city, a world-class Metro system in the shortest possible time.
The base which is created to place the U-Girder on the top of a Pier or Pillar is called Pier Cap. The U-Girder is that particular unit of Metro's civil structure, on which the Metro track is laid and the structure which is in between the Pillar and the U-Girder is called the Pier Cap. Pier Caps are 2 meters in height, 9.3 meters long and 2.8 meters wide, having a weight of about 70 tons.
Since the inception of the construction work, the speed of the civil construction work of the Kanpur Metro project has been a matter of discussion, thanks to the skillful leadership of UPMRC Managing Director Kumar Keshav and the exceptional efficiency of Metro engineers. Within three and a half months, over 600 piles and 42 Piers have already been completed under the Priority Corridor. Simultaneously, the casting of U-girders and Pier-caps is also progressing rapidly in the Metro’s Casting Yard and the casting work of 24 U-girders and 10 Pier caps has also been completed.
