AFCONS Infra placed 300 U-girders on Kanpur Metro priority corridor in record time

First 100 U-Girders were placed in in 67 days, second in 63 and third century came in just 57 days

AFCONS Infra placed 300 U-girders on Kanpur Metro priority corridor in record time

Kanpur, India (Urban Transport News): Civil construction work of the Kanpur Metro Project is progressing at a very fast pace. The team of Afcons Infrastructure Limited has successfully placed 300 U-girders in a very short period of six months. The base of the metro track has also been laid for about half the distance of the 9 km long Priority Corridor, which is being constructed between IIT-Kanpur to MotiJheel.

A total of 622 U-girders are to be placed under the Priority Corridor (primary section) and in accordance with this, the Afcons team has completed the erection of about half of the U-girders, which is a major achievement in itself.

First U Girder under priority corridor was placed on 11th August 2020, in presence of Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and under the closed supervision of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC).

The Afcons team accomplished the erection of the initial 100 U-girders in 67 days, the pace of erection of U-girders has steadily enlarged and UPMRC has pulled off an erection figure of 200 U-girders in the next 63 days and 300 in the next 57 days. In this way, the contractor has accomplished the erection of 300 U-girders within 187 days.

Appreciating the Metro team, Kumar Keshav, Managing Director of UPMRC said:

UP Metro team completed the erection of 300 U-girders at a very fast pace. Touching this figure in such a short time is a big triumph. I applaud the entire team of UP Metro working in the Kanpur Metro Project as well as the contractor AFCONS and the team of General Consultant (GC). We are moving ahead with full speed and confidence towards our objective of providing world-class Metro Services to the residents of Kanpur in a stipulated time.

It is to be mentioned that, on the 15th of November 2019, The construction work of 9 km long ‘Priority Corridor’, between IIT and Motijheel, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on 15th November 2019. It has been a year and 3 months, since the commencement of civil construction works of the Kanpur Metro project. In such a short tenure, the dedicated and skilled team of UP Metro's engineers and the contractor has accomplished numerous achievements associated with the civil construction of the Priority Corridor and has been sustaining the pace of work.
