India's progressive stride in the transportation sector has led to the introduction of RAPIDX, the nation's inaugural Regional Rail transit system. Designed to enhance regional commuting, the RAPIDX project is set to connect key locations across the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, covering a substantial 82 kilometers.

The comprehensive RRTS corridor, spanning from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, is a landmark project aimed at significantly improving inter-city travel. With 13 stations strategically placed along the route, including Jangpura, Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar, Anand Vihar, and more, the RRTS corridor promises to bridge critical gaps in regional connectivity.

Prioritizing Accessibility and Convenience

Efforts have been made to ensure that the RRTS corridor is easily accessible to commuters, with the inclusion of stations like Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and the Duhai Depot forming a vital 17-kilometer priority section that is scheduled for passenger operation from 21st October 2023.

Comfort and Safety

Features of RAPIDX Trains

With a strong focus on commuter comfort and safety, RAPIDX trains have been equipped with a range of amenities. The ergonomically designed 2x2 transverse seating arrangement, coupled with wide standing spaces, ensures a comfortable and spacious travel experience. Passengers can also benefit from amenities like luggage racks, CCTV surveillance, and laptop/mobile charging facilities, creating an environment that is both secure and accommodating.

Fully Air-Conditioned Coaches for Passenger Comfort

To ensure a pleasant commute experience, each RAPIDX train comes fully air-conditioned, enabling passengers to travel in comfort regardless of the weather conditions outside. The Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning System (HVAC) further contributes to a pleasant journey for all commuters.

Operational Details of RAPIDX Trains

Understanding the importance of efficient transportation, RAPIDX trains are operational between 06:00 am to 11:00 pm. The scheduled frequency of a train every 15 minutes ensures that commuters have timely access to this regional transit system. Each train consists of 6 coaches, accommodating up to 1700 passengers, with special provisions for women, specially-abled individuals, and senior citizens.

Specialized Premium Coaches for Added Comfort

Adding an extra touch of comfort, RAPIDX trains incorporate one premium coach in their setup. This coach is equipped with reclining seats, coat hooks, magazine holders, and footrests, ensuring a premium travel experience for those seeking additional comfort and convenience.

Commuters can choose from various ticketing options such as the digital QR code-based ticket through the RAPIDX Connect mobile application, the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) Card, and paper QR code-based journey tickets available at ticket vending machines and counters.

Ticket vending machines are strategically placed at different stations to ensure easy access and convenience for passengers. Moreover, the permissible size and weight of luggage per passenger are set at 80 cm x 50 cm x 30 cm and 25 kg respectively.

Ticketing Options and Customer Care

Understanding the diverse needs of commuters, RAPIDX offers various ticketing options for hassle-free travel. Passengers can opt for paper QR code-based journey tickets, available through Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) or at ticket counters in RAPIDX stations. Additionally, the RAPIDX commuter card, aligned with the Government of India’s "One Nation, One Card" initiative, allows seamless travel across different transit systems, facilitating an integrated and convenient travel experience.

Customer Care Center: A Hub for Commuter Assistance

Safety remains a top priority for the RAPIDX project, and to ensure the well-being of commuters, first aid facilities are available at all RAPIDX stations. In case of a medical emergency, the authorities can also arrange for ambulance services through CATS, guaranteeing timely and efficient medical assistance for those in need.

Lost & Found Center: A Reassuring Feature for Commuters

To address concerns related to lost belongings, a dedicated Lost & Found Center has been established within the RAPIDX system. Commuters can retrieve their lost items from the same station within 24 hours, providing a reliable and convenient solution for lost possessions.

Enhanced Security Measures at RAPIDX Stations and Trains

In an effort to ensure the safety and security of all passengers, RAPIDX has implemented advanced security measures across its stations and trains. Artificial Intelligence-enabled Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD) have been installed for the screening of commuters, effectively preventing any suspicious items from entering the premises.

Seamless Integration of Security Measures

The integration of AI-based luggage scanners at the entry gates further enhances security protocols. These scanners utilize dual-view generator X-ray baggage inspection systems, enabling comprehensive scrutiny of luggage passing through the stations. In the event of any suspicious or prohibited items being detected, the conveyor belt is automatically stopped, ensuring swift and effective security measures.

In an effort to create a pleasant and welcoming environment for commuters, RAPIDX stations boast vibrant and hand-painted wall murals, transforming the station interiors into visually appealing spaces. The Delhi-Meerut RRTS Project, operated by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and supported by the Governments of India, Govt. of Delhi and Govt. of Uttar Pradesh, serves as a pivotal milestone in the realm of Mass Rapid Transit Systems (MRTS). With an estimated project cost of INR 30,274.00 Crores and a scheduled completion deadline in 2025, the project holds the promise of transforming regional transit and enhancing the overall commuting experience for millions of passengers.
