URCC wins ₹284.5 crore civil contract for Madhavaram depot of Chennai Metro Phase 2

Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) in the last week of October 2021 has opened the financial bid for the contract package CP16-MMC-DPT/2021 for the construction of Metro car depot at Madhavaram Milk Colony for Corridor 5 (Puzhuthivakkam – Sholinganallur) of Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase 2.

As per the financial bid result, Chennai-based Construction firm URC Construction Private Limited (URCC) emerged as the lowest bidder by beating other five bidders. The financial position of each bidder is as under:

  • URC Construction Pvt. Ltd.: Rs 284.51 crores (L1)
  • Power Mech Projects Ltd.: Rs 293.40 crores (L2)
  • BGR Energy Systems  Ltd.: Rs 324.61 crores (L3)
  • JMC Projects (India) Ltd: Rs 324.83 crores (L4)
  • ISGEC Heavy Engineering: Rs 348.98 crores (L5)
  • HCC – KEC Internatinal JV: Rs 357.32 crores (L6)

The scope of work includes construction of Construction of metro train depot with administration & workshop buildings at Madhavaram Milk Colony include civil, MEP, roofing, signage, architectural finishes, STP, external drainage, internal roads, boundary wall and all associated works in Corridor-5 of Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase 2.

Tender for the above work was launched in February 2021 and technical bids were opened in July 2021. Now bids have been sent for evaluation by the tender commitee. If everything found according to contract terms, URCC will be awarded the contract to commence the construction work. The contractor will have to complete the work in 2 years 8 months from the date of issuance of letter pf acceptance (LoA) by CMRL.

The 47 km long Corridor 5 of Chennai Metro will connect Madhavaram and Sholinganallur through 48 stations.
