UPMRC plans to add six more metro corridors with Lucknow Metro

Lucknow, India (Urban Transport News): Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC) is making all efforts to expand the metro services in the capital. The objective is that in the coming time the metro reaches every corner of the capital and controls the traffic going on the roads. In this sequence, after the North-South Corridor, a detailed project report (DPR) of the East-West Corridor has been prepared and sent for cabinet approval.

At the same time, five more metro corridors have been selected in Lucknow. These five routes will work as a lifeline for the growing population of the capital with increasing metro connectivity in future. It is estimated that 5 to 7 lakh people will travel in the metro daily in the coming 10 years. Kumar Keshav, Managing Director of UPMRC said that there is a plan to increase the metro connectivity in Lucknow in the future, but it can only be done by the state and central government. He said that the population of Lucknow will exceed 45 lakhs in the coming five years.

During that time, if the two corridors of the metro are ready, then lakhs of people on the road will get a chance to travel the metro peacefully. Not only this, traffic, pollution and accidents on the road will also be curbed. He said that metro expansion is necessary for the capital which would be extended phase to phase. Though Keshav said that the UPMRC team also working to complete the metro project in Kanpur in the stipulated deadline, but if the state government asks to prepare a DPR report for six routes based on the feasibility report in Lucknow, then the DPR will be prepared.

He suggested the following six metro corridor to be added with the Lucknow Metro Rail Project in the future:- Corridor 1: Secretariat to CG City South Corridor 2:  CCS Airport Metro Station to Atal Vihari Bajpai Stadium Corridor 3:  Indira Nagar to Atal Vihari Bajpai Stadium Corridor 4: Charbagh to SGPGI Metro Station Corridor 5: IIM Lucknow to Rajajipuram Station Corridor 6: Munshi Pulia to Jankipuram
