Three firms bid for supply of 78 cars Rolling Stock contract of Chennai Metro Phase 2

Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): The Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) on September 30, 2021, has opened technical bids of Rolling Stock contract package (Phase – II / ARE03) of Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase 2. A total of three bidders/Rolling Stock manufactures have submitted their bids for the supply of 78 coaches (26 train sets) for Corridor 4 of Chennai Metro.

The scope of work under this contract package includes Design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning of standard gauge metro rolling stock (electrical multiple units) and training of personnel for the Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase 2.

The names of bidders are as under:

  • BEML Limited
  • Alstom Transport India
  • Titagarh Wagons Ltd.

Tender notice for the above work was issued in December 2020. 

CMRL will procure a total of 288 cars for Phase 2 corridors of the Chennai Metro Rail Project. Out of 78 cars (26 train sets) for Corridor 4, 336 cars (112 train sets) for Corridor 3 & 5. However, 126 cars (42 train sets) will be procured on a lease basis. Tender notices for all packages have been floated.

The 26.09 km Corridor 4 of Chennai Metro's Phase 2 will connect Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass via Porur through 28 stations wherein a total of 18 stations will be elevated and the remaining 10 stations will be underground.
