Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) issued an e-tender notice for the supply of three coach standard gauge Rolling Stock (metro trains) for the operation on the 26.1 km Corridor-4 of Chennai Metro's Phase II project.
The scope of work includes design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning of standard gauge metro rolling stock (electrical multiple units) and training of personnel for Chennai Metro Project (Phase II). The authority will procure a total of 288 coaches in a phased manner.

CMRL is talking with two international funding agencies viz. Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Asian Development Bank for funding of the project. Apart from these agencies, the state government is also talking with the Central Government for assistance.
In June 2020, CMRL had unveiled a detailed procurement plan of Rolling Stock for Phase II. As per the detailed procurement report, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will issue tenders for the procurement of Rolling Stock coaches by the year 2025.
