Systra-Mace JV to provide PMC services for redevelopment of Ahmedabad Railway Station

Ahmedabad, India (Urban Transport News): SYSTRA, in partnership with British engineering firm Mace, has secured a Project Management Consultancy Services (PMS) contract with India’s Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) for the Redevelopment of Ahmedabad Railway Station.

As a brownfield project with ongoing construction, the endeavor presents formidable challenges, encompassing the safe operation of around 160 trains and the movement of approximately 120,000 passengers daily. Leveraging stringent Project Management practices, including a focus on Safety, Quality, and innovative Digital Technology like e-PMC, our teams in India are fully equipped to meet project objectives within specified parameters.

Hari Somalraju, CEO of SYSTRA India, emphasized the company's commitment to railway station redevelopment projects in India. With ongoing involvement in the redevelopment of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai, India's largest railway station, SYSTRA's participation in the Ahmedabad Railway Station project further strengthens its portfolio in this domain. "We are already providing PMS for the redevelopment of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai, India’s largest railway station, and now our involvement in the Ahmedabad Railway Station project further strengthens our portfolio for railway station redevelopment projects in India," he said.

The modernization of Ahmedabad Railway Station aims to provide users with a world-class experience while facilitating seamless integration as a Multi-Modal Transport Hub (MMTH), bringing together Indian Railways, Metro Rail, and High-Speed Rail services.

In November 2023, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in collaboration with Ahmedabad-based Dineshchandra R Agrawal (DRA) Infracon, secured the contract for the redevelopment of Ahmedabad Railway Station. Emerging as the lowest bidder among six contenders, the DMRC-DRA Infracon JV quoted ₹2,383.59 crore for the project. Redevelopment will be executed on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis by the joint venture.

Inspired by the Modhera Sun Temple, the design of the new station building will reflect architectural elements of local heritage, with features such as an open space Amphitheatre inspired by the Adalaj Stepwell. Additionally, the design will incorporate significant heritage monuments of Ahmedabad, including the Brick Minar and Jhulta Minar.
