SAM India bags Rs 150 crore Civil Work Contract of Kanpur Metro

Lucknow, India (Urban Transport News): The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL) on 22nd September 2020 has issued a letter of acceptance (LoA) worth Rs 150.14 crore to SAM (India) Builtwell Pvt. Ltd. for civil work package (KNPCC-04) for Kanpur Metro Rail projects.

The scope of work includes Civil, Architectural Finishes, Water Supply, Sanitary installation, Drainage, External Development, Fire fighting, Fire detection, E&M works and PEB structures for Nine nos. Elevated metro stations (from IIT Kanpur to Motijheel Metro Station) on the priority section of Kanpur Metro at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. The firm has to complete the work in 14 months.

"Based on the technical and financial evaluation of offers submitted on 07.07.2020, as per the terms and conditions of the tender KNPVV-04, the tender has been awarded to the lowest evaluated offer of M/s SAM (India) Builtwell Pvt. Ltd. on 22.09.2020 at a total INR 150,14,29,132.00 with the approval of competent authority i.e. MD/UPMRC Ltd.," said in the notice of award issued by UPMRCL.

The tender was invited in February 2020 with an estimated value of Rs 135 crore. Technical bids were opened on 7th July 2020 whereby two bidders viz. SAM (India) Builtwell Pvt. Ltd. and Rama Civil India Construction submitted their bids. The evaluation of technical bids was completed on 25th August 2020 and after that financial bids were opened in the first week of September 2020.

The station and viaduct construction work on the priority section (IIT Kanpur - Motijheel) of the Kanpur Metro Rail project is being carried out by Afcons Infrastructure Limited. The first major civil contract package (KNPCC-02R) worth Rs 734.56 crore was awarded to Afcons Infrastructure on 6th September 2019. The construction begins on 15th November 2019 after laying the foundation stone through a formal ceremony by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The 8.728 km priority corridor is part of 23.785 km Corridor 1 of the Kanpur Metro Rail project which is scheduled to be completed by December 2021. Corridor-1 will connect IIT Kanpur to Naubasta through 22 stations.
