New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): In a recent announcement, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized India's commitment to high-speed rail development, citing its potential to bolster economic growth for both the populace and the industrial sector. The government's vision involves establishing seamless connectivity between key transportation hubs through the introduction of high-frequency, high-speed rail services.
According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, the objective behind modernizing the railway infrastructure is to ensure top-notch comfort and services for passengers. Highlighting the broader impact of a high-speed rail network, the minister alluded to the collaborative economic prowess observed in Japan, particularly within the interconnected cities of Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Kobe, and Kyoto. Rather than functioning as isolated entities, these cities collectively constitute a robust economic hub, reaping the benefits of a synergistic relationship and fostering a thriving economy.
“If we look at a high-speed network, we should not look at it as a rail network or infrastructure project alone. A high-speed network rail network basically creates a large economy,” said the Railway Minister.
Furthermore, Vaishnaw underlined the significance of local manufacturing in the process of railway modernization. Emphasizing the need for indigenous design and production, he cited the notable example of the Vande Bharat Express, a symbol of India's engineering prowess and a benchmark for global train standards across multiple parameters.
The minister envisions a future where high-speed rail services enable commuters to seamlessly engage in work or leisure activities during their journeys, effectively transforming travel into a productive and comfortable experience. Acknowledging the importance of passenger satisfaction, the government has initiated a comprehensive initiative to revamp stations nationwide and refurbish aging coaches, with a commitment to enhancing overall travel comfort and convenience.
The commitment to high-speed rail development in India reflects a comprehensive strategy aimed at redefining the nation's transportation landscape, fostering economic growth, and ensuring a seamless and comfortable travel experience for all commuters.
