Prime Minister Narendra Modi to flag off Kanpur Metro services from December 28

Kanpur, India (Urban Transport News): Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC) is all set to launch commercial operation of metro train in Kanpur city. The last-minute preparations are going on ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kanpur. According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the commercial operation of first metro train on Kanpur Metro's 9-km priority corridor (IIT Kanpur - Motijhil) on December 28, 2021.

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has scheduled three-day safety inspection of priority corridor of Kanpur Metro project from December 20 - 22, 2021 before commnecement of comemrcial operation. CMRS will inspect viaduct, tracks and all station facilities like PA system, Signage, Safety & Security arrangements, drinking water facilities, station access and control room. On third day, the team will carry speed trials test to check the running of train at 80 kmph. UPMRC Managing Director Kumar Keshav started his visit from IIT Metro Station on December 16, 2021 to check the preparation status.

On December 28 the passenger services on the stretch will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the esteemed presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Metro services for the public will be open from the next day of inauguration, that is, December 29," said Kumar Keshav adding that that daily passenger services will be available from 6 AM to 10 PM. Initially, only QR code will be available as ticketing mode while the smart cards will be available soon."

He further said that with the advancement of technology, the token system has been replaced with the QR ticket. “Metro service is the most convenient, comfortable and safe mode of public transport, where special attention has been paid to facilitate the women, children and differently able passengers,” he added.

"Metro will not just improve the public transport infrastructure of the city, but will also change the lifestyle of the Kanpurites," Keshav said.
 
The 8.728 km priority section is part of 23.785 km corridor 1 (IIT Kanpur - Naubasta) of Kanpur Metro Rail Project. This priority section will connect IIT Kanpur – Motijheel with 9 elevated stations at IIT Kanpur, Kalyanpur Railway Station, SPM Hospital, CSJM Kanpur University, Gurudev Chauraha, Geeta Nagar, Rawatpur Railway Station, Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital and Moti Jheel.
