PM Modi to inaugurate India's First RAPIDX Train on Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor

New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): In a much-anticipated event, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is set to inaugurate the RAPIDX, the nation's maiden rapid rail train, next week, with the inauguration likely scheduled during the auspicious Navratri festival. The RAPIDX is poised to revolutionize urban transportation as it gears up to operate along the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor.

Reports said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the first RAPIDX train on the 17-kilometer priority stretch in Ghaziabad, and notably, the inaugural run may feature women at the helm, marking a historic moment for the country.

The entire 82-kilometer-long Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor is anticipated to become fully operational by 2025. The project is being undertaken by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which is also set to unveil its mobile app "RAPIDX CONNECT" on this occasion. In addition, an indigenously manufactured platform screen corridor will be introduced, further enhancing the safety and efficiency of the system.

During this momentous event, the NCRTC is expected to showcase the Sarai Kale Khan terminus in Delhi, which will serve as a central hub for all future Regional Rail Train System (RRTS) routes connecting cities like Panipat and Alwar.

The RAPIDX is positioned as India's swiftest urban transit system, boasting speeds that match the 180 kilometers per hour planned for the Vande Bharat, designed for broad gauge.

Here's a closer look at some of the key features of the RAPIDX trains:

  • Each RAPIDX train comprises six coaches, featuring both premium and ordinary compartments, all equipped with reclining seats and increased legroom. Additionally, an exclusive lounge will offer access to the luxury coach. Notably, every train will reserve a dedicated coach for women.

  • The RAPIDX trains will boast a total of 407 seats organized in a 2x2 arrangement, with a remarkable capacity to accommodate 1,061 passengers. Each seat will come equipped with overhead luggage racks and ample storage space. Passengers will enjoy complimentary onboard WiFi, and each seat will be equipped with a personal charging point.

  • The trains will also cater to passengers with special needs, providing designated spaces for wheelchairs. An advanced emergency alarm system will facilitate direct communication with the train driver. Furthermore, the system includes public announcement and display features, a route display system, and a speed gun to monitor the train's velocity.

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor is a visionary project aimed at significantly reducing travel time between the national capital and other key cities in the National Capital Region (NCR). The upcoming inauguration of the RAPIDX train marks a pivotal moment in India's journey toward a more efficient and sustainable urban transportation system.
