Patna (Urban Transport News): The team of the Institute of Urban Transport (IUT) India on Thursday, carried out the inspection of proposed two corridors of the Patna Metro Rail Project. The team carried out an inspection and site visit of both the routes Saguna Mor to Patna Junction and Patna Junction to ISBT.
The team was led by Ms. Sonia Arora, the Urban Transport Expert at the Institute of Urban Transport (IUT India). The team examined the sites of alignments as well as the proposed metro stations in the corridors. She was acompanied by another expert.
Patna Metro is likely to get approval from the Public Investment Board (PIB) soon. After the approval of PIB, the project will be sent to the Central Government for approval. After the change in the technique of making the tunnel, the project cost of the Patna Metro has been reduced by Rs. 4,500 crores. However, no change has been made in the number of alignments and stations.
The total length of the two corridors of the Patna Metro is 31.39 km. The length of the East-West corridor is 16.94 km and the length of the North-South corridor is 14.45 km. On September 25, the formation of the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (SPV) has been approved by the state government.
After studying the revised detailed project report (DPR) of the Patna Metro the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) had sought the report from the State Government on total 41 points. There were other objections including the Transit Oriented Development Plan (TODP), Value Capture Finance Technique (VCFT) report, the formation of the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) etc. The state government has already submitted the reply on some of the objections.
