Pune, India (Urban Transport News): The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) today opened the two metro routes comprising of 12-km stretch of 32.2-km Pune Metro Rail Project. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off the first metro train at Garware College. He also took rides with students on the Pune Metro train from Garware College to Anand Nagar metro station.
Prime Minister inaugurated Pune Metro Rail Project at around 11:30 AM. The passenger service will start from 3.00 PM onwards. This project is an endeavor to provide world-class infrastructure for urban mobility in Pune. The Foundation Stone of the project was also laid by the Prime Minister on December 24, 2016. The entire project is being built at a total cost of more than Rs 11,400 crore.
With the launch of two stretches, Pune Metro today become India's 15th operational metro rail system.
Vanaz - Garware College: The 5-km stretch is part of the 14.665 km Aqua Line (Vanaz – Ramwadi) of the Pune Metro Rail Project. This section has a total of five elevated metro stations at Vanaz, Anand Nagar, Ideal Colony, Nal Stop and Garware College.
PCMC - Phugewadi: The 7-km stretch is part of the 16.59 km Purple Line (PCMC – Swargate) of the Pune Metro Rail Project. This section has a total of five elevated metro stations at PCMC, Tukaram Nagar, Bhosari, Kasarwadi and Phugewadi.

4-5 Stations: Rs 20/-
Round Trip: Rs 30/-
The viaducts of both sections were constructed by NCC Limited. In 2017, Maha Metro has awarded two contracts valued at Rs 499.01 crore and Rs 363.70 crore to NCC Ltd. The stations were built by the consortium of Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) and Al Fara’a Group.
The Italian subsidiary of Titagarh Group - Titagarh Firema SpA has supplied the Rolling Stock (metro trains) for this project. Alstom Transport has delivered the OHE Electrification system, while Sterling & Wilson delivered 33KV cable network, ASS & SCADA system. Asis Elektronik has delivered an Automatic Fare Collection system to the Pune Metro Rail Project.
The total length of Pune Metro corridors will be 33.2 km (30 stations). Out of 27.2 km section will be elevated and the remaining 6 km section will be underground.
