NMC plans to develop multi-modal transport hub in Nashik city

Nashik, India (Urban Transport News): The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is planning to build a 15-storey multi-modal transport building that could come up over 40 acres on the Sinnar side of the Nashik Road railway station. This would serve as a terminal for the Nashik Metro Neo, Pune-Nashik Semi high-speed rail corridor and also as the depot for the city bus service run by the Nashik Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (NMPML).

Recently a meeting was conducted with the officials of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha Metro) and Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MRIDC or MAHARAIL) to discuss the plan. The meeting was chaired by NMC commissioner Kailas Jadhav and attended by Dr. Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director, Maha Metro and Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal, Managing Director, MRIDC. Jadhav directed them to finalise the project, in the first week of September. The project will also include the development of shopping malls and hotels to make it viable.

According to the plan, the existing Nashik Road railway station will have access to the multi-modal transport hub through escalators and will be able to bring seamless passenger transfer. The multi-modal transport hub will be developed on 13 acres of land.

“We have already discussed the concept with the officials from MahaRail and Maha Metro. I will hold a meeting with the MDs of both the authorities in the first week of the next month to finalise the project,” said Kailas Jadhav by adding that once the project is finalised, a consultant will be appointed to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the project. The built-up areas of the project are expected at around 4 lakh square metres.

Earlier NMC had plans to develop a bus depot at the place adjacent to Nashik Road railway station for the city bus service. But after the plans of a multi-modal transport hub, the authority has stopped the works of the proposed bus depot.

The Maha Metro is also working on the implementation of Metro Neo, an eco-friendly mass rapid transit system, for Nashik city.
