Nippon Koei-led consortium secures civil consultancy contract for Dhaka MRT Line 1

Dhaka, Bangladesh (Urban Transport News): The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) has recently opened the financial bids for Civil Consultancy Packages for MRT Line 1. A seven member consortium comprising of NIPPON KOEI CO., LTD. (Japan), ORIENTAL CONSULTANTS GLOBAL CO., LTD. (Japan), DELHI METRO RAIL CORPORATION LTD. (India), NIPPON KOEI INDIA PVT. LTD. (India), KATAHIRA AND ENGINEERS INTERNATIONAL (Japan), DEVELOPMENT DESIGN CONSULTANTS LIMITED (Bangladesh), SYSTRA SA (France) and NIPPON KOEI BANGLADESH LTD. (Bangladesh) have successfully secured a civili consultancy contract worth USD 120 million for providing “CONSULTING SERVICES (CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION) FOR DHAKA MASS RAPID TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (MRT Line-1)”. NIPPON KOEI CO., LTD. (Japan) will lead this contract package.

The second metro rail corridor (MRT Line-1) between Dhaka Airport and Kamalapur will be the first underground rail network in Bangladesh. MRT Line-1 will be divided into Airport Route and Purbachal Route. The Airport Route will be 16.5 Kilometres long underground section with 12 Stations and the Purbachal Route will be 10 Kilometres long section with 9 stations. MRT Line 1 also includes 1 Depot.

The main scope of services includes Construction Supervision of CP-01 to CP-12 Packages (CP-01 to CP-08 : Construction Packages for Civil Works, CP-09 : Track and Electrical works, CP-10 to CP-12 : Systems Packages (Signalling, PSD, AFC, Rolling Stock), Facilitation of implementation of EMP , RAP, Technology Transfer, Interface management among packages, Integration of system operation, Public Relation , Institution Development Assistance, Non-Rail Business Strategy Plan, Design and Development and Station Area Development, Security Assessment and Risk Management, Organization of Panel of Experts, Co-ordination with Stakeholders and Traffic Management.

"Currently, SYSTRA as a member of the consortium is been engaged by DMTCL for Dhaka MRT (Line 1 and Line 5 North), while other members NK, DMRC, DDC are engaged by DMTCL three MRT Lines in Dhaka (Line 6, Line 1 & Line 5 North). SYSTRA is also working with L&T as their specialized design subconsultant for the Traction & Track Design for Dhaka MRT Line 6. Our role in the consultancy assignment will include construction supervision of the railway system, underground section, and depot building. We are excited to expand the team of Expats in Bangladesh who will collaborate with Systra India team to provide seamless services to our client," said Systra.
