Mumbai (Urban Transport News): The Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) has launched a loyalty programme called ‘Metro Rewards’ for smart card users. This rewards programme will provide commuters an additional incentive on use of Mumbai Metro. Mumbai Metro One is the first metro operator which introduce the first such initiative for a mass transit system in the country.
The metro commuter who use a smart card (store value) of Mumbai Metro One and monthly passes are eligible under this loyalty programme. This scheme is based on the distance (number of kilometers) traveled by the commuter i.e. for every 10 km traveled the user will get one point. There is three types of membership benefits defined based on the number of points earned viz. Silver (50 points), Gold (50 to 200) and Platinum (over 200).
“Commuters can avail discounts on products and avail merchandise against the points they accrue. Offers will differ across membership categories,” said an MMOPL official.
To provide benefits to commuters under this loyalty programme, the MMOPL has partnered with over 50 retail establishments across industries such as apparel, food, and beverages. The company will introduce a separate section in the name of 'Offer Zone' on its website to aware commuters about the programme and showcase offers and merchandise. The commuter will get real-time information and update on their mobile phone upon availing an offer, which they can show to the respective retailer to redeem.
“Our present focus is to increase commuter registrations, additional incentives for patrons and incentivizing card-based transactions,” an official said. The company is also working on a referral system through which commuters will get points.

The 'Metro Rewards' programme is launched on Friday to mark the birth anniversary of Dhirubhai Ambani. As a launch offer, the Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) will provide an accident insurance policy worth ₹4.5 lakh for those customers who accrue 10 points. However, commuters will need to do so by January 26, 2019, to avail it.
According to the MMOPL officials, the insurance policy will also be available for accidents that take place on road-based public transport such as buses, rickshaws, and taxis.
