Moscow Transport signs largest electric bus supply contract in Europe

Moscow, Russia (Urban Transport News): Today Moscow is focused on eco-friendly transport and is keeping up with worldwide electric vehicle market trends. Improving the environmental situation in the city is one of the most important priorities the Government of Moscow.

Now there are 1055 electric buses in the capital that run on 79 routes. By the end of 2024 there will be 2 times more of eco-friendly buses. Besides, this year it is planned to install nearly 200 ultra-fast charging stations for the electric buses; open the second electric bus park in the Mitino district in the northwest of Moscow as well as to launch 29 more electric bus routes.

Since 2022, the innovative Russian-made electric buses have been delivered to Moscow. The system provides with optimal temperature in the cabin as well as reduces the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. The upgraded e-buses have modernised batteries that help to ride 80-90 km without charging. Besides, the front route indicator has become larger and the floor covering is now even stronger. The new electric buses are equipped with four validators instead of three, thus it will be more convenient for the passengers to pay easier and faster for the daily trips. The e-bus cabin is also provided with the adaptive light: it depends on the time of the day and changes from cold light to warm one. This created a favourable and relaxed atmosphere inside the e-bus.

“On the instructions of the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we continue the development of eco-friendly modes of transport. Moscow currently runs 1055 electric buses, every day they carry nearly 400 thousand passengers, and we continue to receive new Russian public transport. Today we have signed a contract together with KAMAZ for the supply of 1 thousand electric buses. There are also plans to purchase another 200 electric buses from GAZ Group. The vehicles will come to the capital in the next 2 years. This is the largest purchase of this type of transport in Europe. Such contracts support Russian engineering, provide the industry with orders and jobs. New innovative electric buses will increase the comfort of passengers and improve the environment,” said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

Electric buses were launched in Moscow more than 4 years ago, in 2018. In the meantime, this innovative surface transport has proved its efficiency. The transport has been launched on 79 bus routes and run more than 115 million kilometres.
