Mumbai, India (Urban Transport News): The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is committed to starting a trial run of metro trains on two most awaited metro corridors Metro 2A (Dahisar East - Andheri East) and Metro 7 (Dahisar - DN Nagar) by the last week of this month. According to the MMRDA officials, they have initially planned to commence the trial run on a 20-km stretch between Kamraj - Aarey of lines 2A & 7 from the last week of May 2021 onwards.
"The pandemic induced lockdown has resulted in a shortage of raw material also the workers count on the ground has been reduced, despite all these major challenges MMRDA is trying its best to meet the deadlines of the infra projects. As part of this, we aim to begin a 20 km trial run on Metro lines 2A and 7 by May end. It will be a significant milestone for all of us. The dream of Mumbaikars of Metro connectivity will be a reality soon," said RA Rajeev, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
According to officials, presently the civil works on Metro 2A and Metro 7 have been affected largely due to the uncertainty owing to the Covid-19 pandemic and completion of entire work may take some more time. Therefore, the trial run will be commenced on the stretch where work has been completed. The authority will eventually increase the length of trial runs simultaneously once work on other stretches on these lines completed.
The total distnace of these two corridors is comprises 35 km. The 18.5 km Metro 2 will connect Dahisar East to Andheri East through 16 stations and Metro 7 spans 16.47 km will connect Dahisar East to DN Nagar through 13 stations. The structure of both lines will be elevated.
State-owned PSU BEML Limited had delivered first set of six coach metro train in January this year. The Train is stabled at Charkop depot. The dynamic test of this train set was carried out in February.
