Larsen & Toubro wins ₹2,231 crore tunneling contract for Chennai Metro Line 5

Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): The Chennai Metro Rail Ltd has recently opened the financial bids of its tunneling contract package UG-06 for the contsruction of 5.8 km underground section from Kolathur to Nathamuni of Corridor 5 of Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase 2.

As per the financial bid result announced online, Indian major infrastructure firm Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) is only bidder and may be awarded this contract package soon. L&T has quoted Rs 2,230.93 crore for this contract package which will be funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The scope of work includes, construction of underground stations at Kolathur, Srinivasa Nagar, Villivakam Sub-urban Station, Villivakam bus-terminus and Nathamuni with entry / exit, ventilation shafts, plumbing, earthmat, architectural finishes including signages etc. including twin bored tunnels from Kolathur retrieval shaft to Nathamuni launching shaft and ramps with U – section in corridor-5 of Phase 2 of Chennai Metro Rail project.

Tender for the above contract package were invited in January 2021.
