J Kumar and NCC Win Balance Civil Work Contract of Mumbai Metro Line - 2B

Mumbai, India (Urban Transport News): The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on 24th November 2020 opened the financial bids of two civil contracts that were floated for completion of the balance civil work of Mumbai Metro's Line-2B.

According to bid results shared by the Authority, J. Kumar Infraprojects and NCC Limited emerged as the lowest bidders for the contract packages L2B-C101 and L2B-C102 respectively. The financial positions of each bidder are given as below:

Contract Package  L2B-C101

  • J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd.: Rs 1389.48 Crore (L1)
  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T): Rs 1399.00 Crore (L2)
  • NCC Ltd.: Rs 1421.38 Crore (L3)
  • Afcons Infrastructure Ltd.: Rs 1439.54 Crore (L4)

The scope of work includes part design and Construction of (Balance Works of Package CA04R) Elevated Viaduct and 10 Elevated Stations viz. ESIC Nagar, Prem Nagar, Indra Nagar, Nanavati Hospital, Khira Nagar, Saraswat Nagar, National College, Bandra, Income Tax Office & ILFS [excluding Architectural Finishing & Pre-Engineered Steel Roof Structure of Stations] from Chainage 34035.873m to Chainage 46860.384 of Line2B [DN Nagar – Mandale] of Mumbai Metro Rail Project.

The estimated cost of the tender was Rs 1167.65 crore. After issuing the letter of acceptance (LoA), the contractor has to complete the balance work in 30 months. This contract was earlier awarded to Simplex Infrastructures Ltd. in 2017 and terminated last year by MMRDA citing poor performance and slow progress of work.

  • NCC Ltd.: Rs 719.27 Crore (L1)
  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T): Rs 723.76 Crore (L2)
  • J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd.: Rs 727.74 Crore (L3)

The scope of work includes part design and construction of (Balance Works of Package CA06) Elevated Viaduct and 5 Elevated Stations viz. MTNL Metro, S.G. Barve Marg, Kurla East, EEH & Chembur [Excluding Architectural Finishing & Pre-Engineered Steel Roof Structure of Stations] from Chainage 46860.384 to Chainage 52729.312 of Line 2B [DN Nagar – Mandale] of Mumbai Metro Rail Project.

The estimated cost of the tender was Rs 568.55 crore. After issuing the letter of acceptance (LoA), the contractor has to complete the balance work in 30 months. This contract was earlier awarded to RCC Infra Ventures – MBZ JV in 2018 and terminated last year by MMRDA citing poor performance and slow progress of work.
