IRCON International wins ₹338 crore track work contract for Chennai Metro Phase 2

Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on November 26, 2021 opened financial bids for the contract package C4-TRK-01 called for track installation work at the 16 km elevated stretch from Poonamallee Bypass to Power House Ramp and 10 km underground section in Corridor 4 of Chennai Metro Rail Project (Phase-2).

As per the financial bid result, Indian Railways EPC firm Ircon International emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) among other three bidders submitted their bids against the track work contract package. The financial position of the each bidder is as under:-

  • IRCON International: Rs 337.76 crores (L1)
  • Texmaco – KEC International JV: Rs 402.25 crores (L2)
  • Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T): Rs 404.08 crores (L3)
  • Alstom Transport India: Rs 469.67 crores (L4)

As per the contract notice, the scope of includes but not limited to supply, installation,testing and commissioning of track works of standard gauge including all associated works in Underground and Elevated sections between Light House Station and Poonamalle Bypass Station and Poonamalle Depot in Corridor-4 of Chennai Metro Rail Project- Phase-2.

Now the bids have been sent for evaluation and if everything is okay then CMRL will issue the letter of acceptance (LoA).

Tender notice for the above work was issued in May 2021 and technical bids were opened in October.

The 26.1 km corridor 4 of Chennai Metro stretches from Light House to Poonamallee Bypass. The corridor 4 will consist of 28 stations, out of which 10 are underground and 18 are elevated.
