India's 1st indigenous metro rail tracks produced in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, India (Urban Transport News): Raigarh based plant manufactured indigenous rails which will be used to run the metro trains of the country.

According to the updates, on Monday the first lot of the rails reached Joka depot in Kolkata.

From now onwards, Indigenous sources will provide upto 20% of the total requirement of head hard rails in the country. This initiative will be a major step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat (Make-in-India) movement.

Till now, our country was dependent on Japan, Europe, and other foreign companies for the HH rails.

DK Saraogi, chief operating officer, JSPL said “The Joka-Esplanade metro of Kolkata is laying 1080 grade HH rail tracks prepared by JSPL using an additional heat treatment system”

Kolkata metro is the first to use indigenous rails in India. However, Kolkata's Joka-Esplanade metro became the first to use these rails manufactured by JSPL from Raigarh based plant.

After testing the JSPL railways on International Standards, RITES (Rail India Technical and Economical Service) and RSDO (Research Design and Standards Organisation) have approved the rails

According to the JSPL officials, Joka-Esplanade Metro project agency Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), through a bidding process has placed an order to manufacture the rails from JSPL.

Manufacturing of rails of International Standards in the country will eventually save the foreign exchange.

According to the updates, after an auction process RVNL has selected JSPL railways for providing rails and also did a tough testing and checking of rails to meet the International standards.

These HHs are able to withstand long term wear and tear. Additionally, they can be used for heavy haul applications.

HH tracks designed at JSPL rails are much stronger than the common tracks. These HH rails are specially designed and are able meet the international standard’s speed of over 250 km per hour for the trains.
