New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): In a significant boost to India's infrastructure landscape, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a plethora of developmental projects worth over Rs 1,06,000 crores in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This monumental event included the dedication of key sections of the Dedicated Freight Corridor project, the flagging off of 10 new Vande Bharat trains, and the foundation stone laying of the Petronet LNG Petrochemicals complex at Dahej.
Addressing the nation, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the unprecedented pace of development in the first 75 days of 2024. He noted that projects exceeding Rs 11 lakh crores have been inaugurated or had foundation stones laid, with a remarkable Rs 7 lakh crores unveiled in the last 10-12 days alone. The Prime Minister emphasized that this swift progress is a testament to the government's commitment to Viksit Bharat.
The Prime Minister underscored the transformative impact on the railway sector, citing the dedication of projects worth around Rs 85,000 crores. These initiatives include the expansion of railway workshops, the development of new rail lines, and the upgrading of the electric traction system. Notable among them is the extension of Vande Bharat trains, reaching 250 districts and benefiting from popular demand with route extensions.
Prime Minister Modi outlined the journey of Indian Railways from challenges before 2014 to the present, emphasizing the government's resolute efforts to bring the railways out of difficult conditions. He highlighted initiatives such as a six-fold budget increase since 2014 and assured the citizens that the next five years would witness a transformation beyond imagination.
The Prime Minister spoke about the strategic importance of dedicated freight corridors in improving speed and connectivity. He shared that around 600 kilometers of freight corridor have been inaugurated, doubling the speed of goods trains. The government's emphasis on making Indian Railways a medium for Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Vocal for Locals is reflected in the One Station One Product scheme, where products from local artisans and businesses will be sold at railway stations.
In concluding his address, Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that Indian Railways will continue to move ahead at the pace of modernity. This commitment to progress and development is not just a promise but a guarantee from the Prime Minister himself. He called upon citizens to cooperate in this collective celebration of development.
