India needs multi-modal infrastructure for transportation: Narendra Modi

New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): Integrated transport system is going to develop in India as under the National Infrastructure Pipeline it will spend more than Rs 110 trillion on infrastructure sector in the next 5 years. Across India, the finance ministry has identified around 7000 projects for the development of infrastructure for the transportation sector.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the country needs the overall direction in the infrastructure sector. And for this, we have to develop an integrated transportation system across the country which will connect various modes of transport such as rail, road, water, and air.

He added, “To bring integrated transportation system we have to break the era of working in silos in infrastructure”.

Listing to the positive sides of the integrated transportation system, the Prime Minister said that this will cut travel time and make the transportation systems more efficient and facilitate the smooth transfer of goods.

Addressing the nation on 15th August, he added:

It will be like a new revolution in infrastructure. Now the era of eliminating silos in infrastructure has come. For this, a very big plan has been prepared to connect the entire country with Multi-Modal Connectivity Infrastructure.

Furthermore, he said that the Ministry of Finance has identified around 7000 projects to develop social and economic infrastructure. And in the coming 5 years, our country will be spending more than Rs. 110 trillion on infrastructure, under NIP.

Under the umbrella of Make in India government is thinking to invest around Rs. 110 trillion in infrastructure projects over the next 5 years. Therefore, make India a $5-trillion economy.

Remembering former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, PM Modi said he had laid the foundation for India’s next-generation infrastructure, with a road project called the Golden Quadrilateral, which connects Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai through a network of highways, “We need to take this forward."
