Home Minister Amit Shah lays foundation stone of ₹5,618-crore Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor

Sonipat, India (Urban Tranpot News): Union Home Minister Amit Shah today laid the foundation stone of the much-awaited Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor Project and inaugurated four other projects worth a combined Rs 6,629 crore. He inaugurated the projects virtually from an event at the Parade Ground in Sector 12.

He laid the foundation stone of the Rs 5,618-crore Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor project. Apart from this, he inaugurated a rail coach refurbishment factory worth Rs 590 crore in Sonipat's Barhi and India's first longest elevated railway track in Rohtak, built at a cost of Rs 315.40 crore.

The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor project will connect Palwal with Sonipat. According to the detailed project report, the corridor will have a 121.7-kilometre-long rail with double line track, which is expected to be commissioned by 2025.

The orbital rail project will allow the movement of double-stack containers and will have 17 stations in between Palwal and Sonipat. The orbital rail project will also have a 5-kilometre tunnel through the Aravallis.

In May this year, Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HRIDC) issued a civil contract worth Rs 158,16,56,102.31 (Rs 158.16 crore) to a Gurugram-based construction firm KCC Buildcon Pvt Ltd. for the construction of  5.9 km C1 Priority Section of the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor Project. The priority section of this project will connect Manesar Station with the existing Patli Station on the Indian Railways’ network.

The responsibility of the KCC Buildcon includes Construction of Earthwork, Bridges, Station Buildings, Retaining Walls and other miscellaneous Works in connection with laying of New BG Double Railway line of HORC Project from Km 49.7 to Km 55.6 and its connectivity (new BG single line) from proposed Manesar Station of HORC to existing Patli Railway Station of IR Network.

A joint venture of RITES Ltd and SMEC was apponited as General Consultant (GC) for providing General Engineering Consultancy for this project in February this year.

The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor Project will be implemented by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, a joint venture of Ministry of Railways and Government of Haryana.
