Gulermak-Sam India JV bags ₹769 crore underground civil contract of Kanpur Metro project

Lucknow, India (Urban Transport News): The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL) on 8th March 2021 awarded the underground civil contract package ( KNPCC-05) worth Rs 769.23 crores to the consortium of  Gulermak-Sam (India) Builtwell for the construction of an 8.621 km underground tunnel including four stations of Kanpur Metro Rail projects.

"Based on Technical and Financial evaluation of offers submitted on 30.09.2020 and as per terms and conditions of the tender KNPCC-05, the tender has been awarded to M/s Gulermak-Sam India Kanpur Metro Joint Ventures (P) Ltd. on 08.03.2021 at a total cost of INR 7,69,23,67,457.44 and USD 3,67,44,901.15 with the approval of competent authority i.e. MD/UPMRCL," said UPMRCL in its notice of award of the tender.

The scope of work includes design and construction of Tunnel from the start of the elevated ramp (after Motijheel Station) to end of Nayaganj station including four underground metro stations (viz. Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj) and ramp including Architectural finishes, E&M, TVS, ECS etc. on Corridor-1 of Kanpur Metro Rail Project. The contractor has to complete the work in 36 months.

The tender for the above work was notified on 10th July 2020 with an estimated cost of Rs 1,400 crores. Technical bids were opened on 30th September 2020 where UMPRC unveiled the names of seven bidders viz. Dogus Insaat Ve Ticaret AS, Gulermak-Sam (India) Builtwell JV, Larsen & Toubro Ltd., JMC-CAI JV, Tata Projects Ltd., AFCONS Infrastructure Ltd. and Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd.

Financial bids were opened on 14th January 2021. The Gulermak-Sam (India) Builtwell JV had quoted Rs 1,042.26 crores against the UPMRC's estimate. Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd. (STEC) was disqualified in the technical evaluation stage hence their financial bids were not opened by the tender committee.

The 23.785 km Kanpur Metro will connect IIT to Naubasta through 22 stations (14-Elevated and 8-Underground). At present Afcons Infrastructure Ltd is constructing the 8-km priority corridor of Knapur Metro from IIT to Motijheel.
