Gr. Noida Authority approves Noida Metro Phase 2 ahead of opening of Aqua Line

Noida (Urban Transport News): In last month, Urban Transport News has covered an exclusive story on Authority's plan to connect Greater Noida West with the metro rail system.  In the 113th board meeting on December 4,  the Graater Noida Authority board has approved the extension of phase-I (Aqua Line) from Noida Sector-71 to Knowledge Park-V.

The Noida-Greater Noida Metro Extension will cover total 9 stations with a project cost of Rs.2602 crores. Out of 9, two stations will be in Noida and remaining seven stations will be in Greater Noida area.

Highlights of the Noida Metro Phase II project:

  • Project Name: Noida-Greater Noida Metro Phase II
  • Project Cost: Rs 2602 crores
  • Funding: GoI, UP Govt., Noida Authority, Gr. Noida Authority
  • Length: 14.95 km
  • Total Stations: 9 (elevated)
  • Stations names: Sector-122, Sector-123, Sector-4, Ecotech 12, Sector-2, Sector-3, Sector-10, Sector-12 and Knowledge Park-V.

According to the Authority, "NMRC would be the nodal agency for the project. The first phase of the Metro project comprising five stations from Noida Sector 71 to Greater Noida Sector 2 is expected to cost around Rs 1521 crore. The modalities and details on the DPR would be given later."

The metro stations in Noida include two stations namely Sectors-122 and Sector-123 and the rest seven metro stations in Greater Noida include Sector-4, Ecotech 12, Sectors-2, Sector-3, Sector-10, Sector-12 and Knowledge Park V.

The plan was prepared in one year ago but it was kept hold due to fund crisis with the Authorities. Besides this, the project was not feasible as ridership would be low along the route.

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) will implement the Noida Metro Phase II project. The Noida-Greater Noida Metro corridor is expected to be operational by end of 2018. Safety inspection of this corridor will be carried out from 11 December to 13 December 2018 by the Commissioner for Metro Railway Safety (CMRS).
