Govt extends tenure of Delhi Metro Chief Mangu Singh till September (Mangu Singh, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation)

New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): Delhi Government has given six months extension to Mangu Singh, Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) whose tenure comes to end this month on 31st March 2021.

The extension was accorded by Delhi Government's Transport Department after getting approval from the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Govt. of India this week. In this regard, a separate order has been issued on Wednesday by the Transport department.

“To convey the concurrence of the Ministry to the proposal of the Delhi Government for the extension of Mangu Singh as the Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd with effect from 01.04.2021 to 30.09.2021”, the Ministry said in a letter to Delhi Government transport department, sources said.

This was the third extension given to Mr. Singh. The first extension of tenure came in December 2016. Mr. Singh had taken over the charge of Managing Director of the DMRC from E Sreedharan on 31st December 2011. He is associated with DMRC since its inception.

The process to find out Singh’s successor will have to be completed by 31st March 2021. As per clause 144a of the Articles of Association of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the Managing Director is to be designated by the Delhi Government with the prior concurrence of the Central Government. The phase III works of Delhi Metro are yet to be completed while the phase IV works have already been started under the leadership of Mr. Singh.

Mangu Singh (66) is a 1981 batch IRSE officer and has been with the Indian Railways in various capacities before joining DMRC.
