Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot shared the milestone on 'X', emphasizing that Delhi has now surpassed all other cities in the country in terms of the sheer number of electric buses in operation. "Delhi will now have the maximum number of electric buses in the country," he proudly declared.

Notably, these buses have contributed to a substantial reduction of over 34,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, showcasing the positive impact of the green initiative.

Aiming for a Green Fleet Dominance

Looking ahead, Delhi has ambitious plans to further revolutionize its public transportation system. By the year 2025, the city aims to boast a total fleet of 10,480 buses, with electric buses constituting a remarkable 80 percent of the entire fleet. This strategic shift is projected to result in an annual reduction of 4.67 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide, aligning with the city's commitment to environmental sustainability.

Features of the New Electric Buses

The newly flagged-off electric buses bring a host of features designed to enhance the overall commuting experience. These buses are disability-friendly, equipped with air-conditioning systems, emit zero smoke and noise, and come equipped with advanced technologies such as GPS, CCTV cameras, and panic buttons. The emphasis on accessibility, comfort, and cutting-edge technology underlines Delhi's commitment not just to green transportation but also to a passenger-centric approach.

A Green Milestone for Delhi

The concerted effort to integrate electric buses into Delhi's public transportation system is a crucial step towards reducing the city's carbon footprint and combating air pollution. The success of this initiative underscores Delhi's determination to lead the way in sustainable urban development and sets a commendable example for other cities in India and beyond.
