CPWD appoints DMRC to prepare DPR for 3-km Central Vista Ring Metro Corridor

New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has finaly roped Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) to prepare detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed 3-kilometre long underground metro loop for Central Vista project.

In this regard, CPWD and DMRC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Metro Bhawan, New Delhi on February 28, 2022. The MoU was signed between P. S. Chauhan, Special DG for CPWD amd Parmit Kumar Garg, Director (Business Development) for DMRC in the presence of DMRC’s Managing Director, Mangu Singh and other senior officials.

According to MoU, DMRC officials shall provide technical assistance as well as execute finishing and service works for the construction of a Metro loop corridor to connect the existing Metro network with the new Central Secretariat buildings, which shall come up as part of the Central Vista Area Redevelopment project.

DMRC will also prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) apart from finalising the horizontal and vertical alignment of the tracks and tunnels along with sizing of facilities like platforms, support services and maintenance facilities. DMRC shall also appoint the Detailed Design Consultant for the project.

However, CPWD officials will carry out the basic civil structure construction work, DMRC shall execute all other finishing and services works including the design and construction of control systems, signal systems, track work, rolling stock, electrical and maintenance works etc.  

"A Metro loop corridor, about three kilometres in length, connecting four Common Central Secretariat stations with the existing Central Secretariat Metro station is being proposed to cater to the office goers who shall travel to these offices using the Metro. Planning is being done expecting a peak hour demand of 20,000 passengers per hour during the morning and evening peak hours. The entire corridor shall be underground," said a statement issued by DMRC. 

Presently DMRC is operating a 391-km long Metro rail network with 286 stations. As part of its Phase IV expansion, DMRC is engaged in the construction of 65 kilometres of new lines across three different corridors.
