CEG commences soil testing works of Patna Metro Rail project

Patna (Urban Transport News): Jaipur based consultancy firm, Consulting Engineers Group Limited (CEG) has commenced geotechnical investigation work (soil testing) on the North-South corridor of Patna Metro Rail project on November 1. The work started by CEG engineers between Rajendra Nagar and Inter-state Bus Terminus (ISBT) depot in the presence of officials from both Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Patna Metro Rail Corporation.

The firm has deployed five machines at various locations to collect samples of soil. On October 15 & 16, the project consultant Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued two contract orders to CEG Group for conducting geotechnical investigation works for Corridor I & II of Phase I of Patna Metro Rail Project as the firm has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) in the tenders. Urban Development and Housing Department (UDHD) special secretary Sanjay Dayal said:

It has been started from Rajendra Nagar to ISBT via Malahi Pakri and Bypass. Work on the East-West corridor of Patna Metro from Danapur to Patna Junction will also be taken up without delay. Once the soil tests report comes, tender for construction work will be floated. It will take six months to award the construction work.

Daljeet Singh, Director (Works) of DMRC said that the soil testing work started at the beginning of this month and will be completed in two months. Planning for the metro stations are also going on. Once finalized, the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) will be asked for the acquisition of the required land. Talking about the plan, an official working at the site said that they have been given a three-month time frame to complete the soil testing work.

The soil sample is being collected from the desired depth, which will be later sent to the laboratory for tests. After the report comes, the company will recommend the kind of treatment the soil has to be given and the material to be used for the foundation. We are using five machines as of now.

The geotechnical work on Corridor I of the first phase of the Patna Metro Rail project will be carried out from Danapur to Mithapur and similarly the geotechnical work on Corridor II of the first phase will be carried out from Patna Railway Station to New Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). Recently, Patna Metro Rail Corporation has directed DMRC to make some changes in the alignment of the North-South corridor of Patna Metro Rail project as Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) did not give its no-objection certificate for a metro rail to pass from Kumhrar area.
